If you play basketball you should know the importance of a great basketball warmup. Having a great basketball warmup will help your playing skills and optimize your chances for a win at the game. Make sure that you do not fall for the many myths out there about basketball warmups and always follow the following tips.

• Do not practice anymore than eight hours in a week. A general rule for a great basketball training session is to spend an hour on the court and forty five minutes in the weight room.

• Make sure that you do mobility drills, foam rolls, and stretches before and after each basketball warmup.

• Make sure that you focus on the quality of everything you do during your workout. Making sure that you are at your best will help you to have great skills.

• Go into the weight room and exercise your upper and lower body focusing on compound exercises.

• Remember to have great concentration skills and also have confidence. Having confidence can help you out on the court, even in practice.

Basketball Warmup Exercises That Work

There are hundreds of great exercises that can be done for a good basketball training. Running for instance helps to strengthen and maintain flexibility in the legs. How to Do a Slam Dunk – Basketball Skills

So, you want to learn how to do a slam dunk, do you? Become the star basketball player on your team? Get more airtime than Jordan? More hang time? Win the Slam Dunk Contest at the NBA All-Star Game your rookie year?

Well, alright. All of this is possible, but not without being consistent in your training and working hard on, as well as off, the court. It is probably more important to consistently work hard off the court.

To learn how to do a slam dunk is easy, really. At least it is easy to learn what you need to do in order to do the slam dunk successfully. I mean, doing a slam dunk just means jumping up to the basket, stuffing the ball into the net, hanging for your fans a while (so that they can all take pictures with their cell phone cameras, of course), then dropping to the ground. The hardest part of all that is getting some air.

If you are one of those countless people out there who are thinking and hoping that there are some kind of special exercises or moves that will suddenly make you into a slam dunkin’ maniac, guess again. The only thing that is going to turn you into a slam dunkin’ maniac, is proper exercise, time, and a huge, heapin’ helpin’ of three major ingredients – the secret formula for all-star slam dunking.

To increase speed and height, there are certain exercises you will need to learn to do, that will get your legs to carry you faster and your leg muscles to get you airborne.

The first question on your mind should be this. Do the exercises that I will be doing help me run faster or jump higher or both? Both skills are joined at the hip – literally. The muscles you will be using to run faster are almost the same muscles that you will be using to leap higher. So these exercises will help you in both areas. Here is something to think about. Ever see a runner who can’t jump worth a hill of beans? How about someone who is good at the high jump who is slower than growing grass? I think I’ve made my point.

So, start there. Exercises that help you learn how to run faster and jump higher will help you learn how to do a slam dunk.

At first, you need to calculate how much spin and how hard you are dribbling and where the ball is landing in good hand-eye-leg coordination. When you dribble from one hand to the other, try absorbing the force and you will have a better control. Keep a constant rhythm in your dribble right until you are about to dribble past your opponent. The change of rhythm can get your opponent slightly off-balance, also. The ability to add spin the ball gives you greater maneuverability. After the ball bounces off the floor, the ball will have some hangtime in the air. You should use this hangtime well to execute eye and shoulder fakes or delay the following bounce to freeze your defender. But if you wait until the ball rests completely in your hand, you will delay your basketball dribbling. So striking the balance between speed and control is very important.

Frequently shift your momentum to different directions while anticipating how the defender will react to your actions. It is often that you give your intentions away and your defender knows it. However, you can actually use this in against direction. Look at the defender naturally and occasionally scan for open players. Then, look at the side opposite to your target lane when you are about to burst. Shake your shoulder and arm towards the side opposite to your target lane. The fake is a very powerful weapon.

Good basketball dribbling and ball handling are a way more than “nice looking moves”, its about protecting the ball, being able to create plays, get open for shots, and a whole lot more.
